Abalone Shell Full Moon Tree of Life Pendant Handmade
An iridescent Abalone (Paua) shell full moon is nestled in the branches of a bare tree of life pendant. Handmade and wire wrapped in non-tarnish sterling silver plated wire, this Full Moon Tree of Life pendant is a beautiful piece of unique wearable art.
The Tree of Life is a concept that’s been featured in myth, story and legend literally all around the world. Since ancient times, people have used variations on the theme. Connecting all things – the realms of the spirit, the physical, the Divine and the mundane – the roots of the Tree and the branches touch all things and bring them together in harmony.
This pendant is handmade using painstaking wire-wrapping techniques. Non-tarnish, sterling silver plated wire (made in the USA) encircles the pendant, and is then used as the roots, trunk and branches of the tree. This tree is bare of leaves like one would see in Winter and features a large, iridescent abalone shell “full moon” behind the branches.
Abalone (known as “Paua” to the Maroi people of New Zealand) is a naturally occurring mollusk shell with beautiful iridescent swirls of color ranging from greens, through blues to blacks. Abalone may also be called Mother of Pearl, or by the name Sea Opal, due to the iridescent blues and greens that are produced when polished, which is similar to the color play of an Opal. Abalone has strong ties to the sea and the ocean and was commonly used as far back as the 18th century in nautical jewelry and gifts.
The pendant measures approximately 1.5″ in diameter not including bail.
